The one and only
Ray Bradbury, author of many modern classics of science fiction and fantasy, has died today at the age of 91.
[link]In honor of him, we're dedicating this month's art jam to a prehistoric giant he helped create, which in turn, went on to inspire many other such monster films, including the original
"Godzilla".
"The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" is a 1953 film that was loosely adapted from Bradbury's short story
"The Fog Horn", which told the tale of a lone dinosaur who mistakes a light house and it titular horn, for one of its own kind.
Of course, the
Rhedosaurus of the finished film, isn't quite the same figure from the original short story (he's quite mean actually), but is a conceptual spawn of
"The Fog Horn" regardless - especially since Ray Bradbury was involved with the film's production. It should also be noted, that
Ray Harryhausen, the stop-motion effects master behind the Rhedosaurus animations, is also a close friend to Mister Bradbury.
Here's some more info on the film, including trailer and an entire blog dedicated to the Rhedosaurus himself, and himself alone!

[link]Now we do realize that
"The Fog Horn" has a closer connection to Ray Bradbury than the motion picture spin-off does. And although we generally avoid multiple characters per art jam, we're allowing artwork based directly off the original short for this month as well. It's totally optional to you, the artists, wither you want to tackle either character / subject, or both this month.
Here some links related to
"The Fog Horn" for your use:
