KMAC Returns With Gamera-Free-For-ALL
The Kaijuden Monthly Art Challenge (or KMAC for short) will be starting up again...well, like RIGHT NOW I suppose. I'll do a separate blog post soon, but basically we'll be celebrating Gamera's 50th Anniversary with a series of Gamera-Free-For-ALL sessions throughout 2015.
Basically, create original artwork connected to ANYTHING Gamera related, wither it be himself, his co-star monsters, human characters from the Gamera films, original Gamera monsters, anything and everything is acceptable. Just please make sure your original works are all done in good taste. And not extreme in gore, nudity, or foul language.
Speaking of Gamera, the monster was apparently brought out for a brief appearance at the 2015 Chofu Film Festival. It looks like the 1995 suit, so don’t get too excited about implication for a new movie here, though.
Waiting for Gamera, Featuring Art by WinterGaia
I wrote an article at my blog, discussing the virtual absence of a new Gamera movie for 2015. And is the first of several Gamera-related items I will be posting there, throughout 2015.
Also showcased is art from our own (WinterGaia) and her comic strip "Cheer Up Gamera"

"Attack on Titan" Teaser Trailer Posted
The most-hyped thing to hit Japanese pop culture this week was a first real trailer (i.e. not a car commercial) for Shinji Higuchi’s "Attack on Titan" duology (coming August 1 and September 19).
In true Japanese form, the ad originally premiered on a TV variety show and had panelists’ pic-in-pic reactions in the corner, but now Toho has posted a cleaner version.
There's also talk of a Hollywood adaptation of "Attack on Titan" being discussed. And even though I dread it whenever Hollywood tries its 'race-bending' hands at anything connected to Asian culture, at least their going after an anime / manga property whose human cast can be portrayed by non-Asians. Probably. Maybe...I bitterly hope?
At least Mikasa Ackerman is totally screwed.
The King of the Monsters And The Minions
A CGI animated promo for Toho Cinemas, featuring the Minions from "Despicable Me" and of course, Toho’s biggest star:
RECENT BOOK: "A Kim Jong-Il Production" (February 2015)
"A Kim Jong-Il Production" is a new book highlighting the creation of the 1985 North Koran kaiju flick "Pulgasari". Along with other films produced in North Korea in the 1980's. And less-than-pleasant history behind the kidnapping of actress Choi Eun-Hee (Madam Choi), and her ex-husband and ally in these terrible times, director Shin Sang-Ok:

Kaiju Videos for May 2020 part 2
Here's a new collection of May kaiju vids to enjoy, pretty cool stuff, especially the new Wikizilla video :D
Wikizilla posted a video about everyone's favorite subterranean sea beetle god, Megalon! Seriously, WHEN is Megalon returning to the big screen? Gigan got a comeback, complete with H.R. Geiger influenced redesign, so why not his drill beetle buddy as well? Legendary, Toho, one of you make this happen already.

Happy Birthday to Akira Takarada
Today is the birthday of classic Toho leading man, Akira Takarada! He's a familiar face to all of us kaiju fans who've grown up watching Godzilla movies from the Showa era all the way through to the Heisei and Millennium eras (plus that scene they cut out from Godzilla 2014 lol), and who've been lucky enough to meet him in person at conventions around the world. He's given us so many happy memories and as someone who's met him in real life, seems like a very friendly man overall, so I wish him a very happy 86th birthday, and many more!

DaiGuard The Complete Series FREE TO WATCH
Crunchyroll has recently uploaded the slice-of-life-office-comedy-giant-robot-vs-giant-monster-adventure series DAI GUARD onto their public online and streaming sites, the complete series with both subtitles and English dubbing for free access.

While the series isn't wall-to-the-wall monster action, its definitely a lot of fun and, as my friend KaijuDuke has noted, one can appreciate it a lot more now as an adult than as a teenager with a working man's perspective but it's still bright and upbeat enough for children to get into - worth seeing for both the mecha vs monster action and, of course, the slic

Glad to see Gamera getting some recognition in time for his 50th Anniversary.
